    Telehealth: Online Videoconferencing Appointments

Are you wondering if telehealth might be the right fit for you? Consider these questions:

    • Do you want support but struggle to attend in-person appointments due to a busy schedule or social distancing needs?
    • Are you a working or stay-at-home parent who finds it challenging to carve out time to travel for therapy?
    • Do you live in an area without access to a therapist who specializes in couples and family work?
    • Is it difficult for you and your partner to coordinate schedules and be in the same place at the same time?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, telehealth appointments could be a game-changer for you.

Telehealth offers flexibility and convenience, making it easier to prioritize your relationship. Sessions can be conducted from anywhere with a reliable internet connection—using a computer, tablet, or even a smartphone with a camera and microphone. About Telehealth by SimplePractice

I use Telehealth by SimplePractice, a secure and HIPAA-compliant platform designed for ease and convenience. There’s no need to worry about creating or remembering passwords—logging in is straightforward. If you’ve ever had a video call using platforms like Zoom, FaceTime, Google Duo, or WhatsApp, you’ll find this technology just as simple and familiar.

Joining Your Telehealth Session is Simple and Secure

About 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment, you’ll receive an email reminder with a unique, secure link. Simply open the email and click the link—it will take you directly to the Telehealth platform in your web browser on your computer or laptop.

To ensure a smooth experience, make sure your camera and microphone are turned on. When you’re ready to begin, click “Join Video Call,” and you’ll be connected to your session.

Telehealth makes it easy to get the support you need, all from the comfort of your own space.

    Easy, Flexible, and Convenient

I Not sure if telehealth is right for you? Rest assured, our virtual sessions are simple to access and designed for your convenience. You can use any device with a reliable internet connection, such as a laptop, smartphone, or tablet.

If you’re planning to use a mobile device, take a moment before your first appointment to download the “Telehealth by SimplePractice” app, available for iOS or Android in your app store. Once downloaded and set up, you won’t need to access the app directly for your sessions – just have it installed and ready to go.

For couples, it’s ideal to attend sessions together in the same location, but telehealth also offers the flexibility to join from separate locations if needed.

    Here’s how it works:

    1. You’ll receive a reminder email 10 minutes before your appointment, including a secure video link unique to you.
    2. Open the email on your device and click the link. If you’re using a smartphone or tablet, the Telehealth by SimplePractice app will open automatically.
    3. When you’re ready to join, click “Join Video Call” to enter the session. I’ll be there shortly to guide you through.

Telehealth makes it easier than ever to prioritize your relationship, no matter where you are.

Tips to Prepare for Your Telehealth Session

Feeling stuck in your relationship can be overwhelming, and taking the step to seek help is a significant decision. To help you both make the most out of your telehealth sessions, I’ve put together some tips to create an effective and comfortable virtual experience.

    1. Choose a Distraction-Free Space

Find a quiet, private location where you won’t be interrupted. Ensure this space feels safe and comfortable for both of you to share openly. Eliminate distractions by silencing notifications, turning off televisions, and putting phones away unless they’re being used for the session.

    2. Test Your Technology

Reliable internet and functional devices are key to smooth telehealth sessions. Before your appointment, test your computer, tablet, or smartphone to ensure the video and audio work properly.

    3. Set the Right Atmosphere

Create an environment conducive to open communication. Adjust lighting so that your faces are clearly visible, and ensure you’re both comfortably seated. You might consider having water or tissues nearby, as well as anything else that helps you feel grounded.

    4. Prepare Mentally and Emotionally

Take a few moments before the session to reflect on what you’d like to address. Discuss together what you hope to gain from the session. Having a clear idea of your best hopes from our time together can help keep the sessions focused and productive.

    5. Have a Plan for Post-Session Time

The sessions can bring up strong emotions. Schedule some downtime after your session to process what you’ve discussed. Whether it’s a quiet walk, journaling, or simply sitting together, giving yourselves time to decompress is important.

    What Happens If Technology Fails?

Happy middle-aged couple spends leisure time with a laptop at home. Senior spouses sit at the desk in kitchen, watching video, web surfing or shopping online together, look at screen and smile

At times, technology can be unpredictable, and we understand that this might cause concern during a telehealth session. Please know that we have a clear plan in place to manage any technical difficulties so you can feel reassured and focus on your session without worry. If there is a technical issue, such as a loss of internet connection or other disruption, here’s how we will handle it:

    1. Immediate Troubleshooting

    • If a connection issue occurs, please try to rejoin the session within 5 minutes using the same link.
    • If the issue persists, I will attempt to contact you by phone. Please make sure I have your current phone number on file.

    2.  Backup Options

    • If we cannot resolve the issue quickly, we can transition the session to a phone call to continue our conversation.
    • If a phone call is not an option or the issue occurs near the end of our session, we can reschedule for a time that works best for you.

    3.  Your Comfort Is a Priority

    • If the technical issue causes frustration or disrupts the flow of the session, we will pause and assess whether to continue or reschedule. I want you to feel comfortable and supported at all times.

    4.  No Extra Costs for Interrupted Sessions

    • In case of significant technical difficulties that require rescheduling, you will not be charged for the incomplete session.
